Lake View House

Contemporary oak framed Living Room black wood burning stove and grey sofas

This low-profile house was completed adjacent to fishing lakes in Bedfordshire. The house is partially dug into the rising ground levels and largely invisible through the inclusion of green roofs.

The house is entered through an overhanging roof and modest front door to reveal stunning views through the central barn room to the lakes opposite.

The client did not want oak tie-beams across the main living space and so we worked closely with the structural engineer to develop a structural portal frame system.

The stepped roof profile allows a band of high level clerestory windows to naturally light rooms and corridors to the rear of the house.

All bedrooms and principle living rooms have full-height windows overlooking the lakes.

A hidden playroom is situated between two children’s bedrooms and accessed via secret bookcase doors.
