Counting House

Sensitive extension to a listed corrugated iron house oak framed Living Room

This sensitive refurbishment and extension to a listed corrugated iron house on Dartmoor was undertaken by Roderick James Architects partner Mike Hope and his wife.

Originally the Wage Captain's house for the adjacent Victorian china clay works (now fishing lakes) - this house was brought into the 21st century with the addition of a green oak frame extension.

The house now features an underfloor heating system with air source heat pump, a heat recovery and ventilation system, two woodburners with back-boiler - all with stunning views of the moors.

Externally the extension is distinguishable from the original house via the vertical larch cladding.

The original interior of the house was carefully dismantled with high levels of insulation introduced and the original floor and wall boarding put back.

A simple shaker style kitchen sits well with the original interior style.
