Bolts Barn

Based on our BAARN® Lofthouse design, this new holiday home is set within the Quantock Hills AONB, with fantastic far-reaching panoramic views over the Bristol Channel towards the southern coast of Wales.

The low-key barn style rural aesthetic of the entry elevation is further reinforced with the use of home grown horizontal larch cladding, and a grey standing seam metal roof, but upon opening the front door the rural traditional feel is left behind.

A covered lean-to and partially enclosed porch allows those muddy boots and coats to be removed and stored before entering into the stunning open-plan oak framed ‘barn’ living spaces, with fully-glazed wall and contemporary woodburner.

This simple, yet stunning design incorporates an exposed green oak frame, which is then wrapped with SIP roof and wall panels and then finished internally with large areas of painted plasterboard, to give the space a modern twist.

To compliment the high quality finishes, this house also contains numerous details that help to elevate it from the norm, including wrap around glazed walls to bring in the view, green oak detailing concealing the staircase, ‘open’ mezzanine and a glazed triangular gable window.

The exposed oak frame is complimented with subtle lighting and wide plank bandsawn timber flooring, complete with underfloor heating fed by an ASHP, which all helps to create a beautiful and comfortable interior.

Externally, a raised oak balcony terrace gives direct level access outside, whilst helping to ‘ground’ the house on its sloping site.
